Grzegorz Swirszcz, a renowned artificial intelligence (AI) expert who spent over eight years at Google DeepMind, has been appointed as Quant Research Director at fast-growing London quant hedge fund Qube Research & Technologies, according to a report by eFinancial Careers.
Swirszcz’s previous roles include working as a staff research scientist in DeepMind’s deep learning group, where he focused on developing general AI. Before his time at DeepMind, he had a decade-long career in finance, conducting financial modelling and machine learning research at IBM’s Watson Research Centre as early as 2004.
Swirszcz’s move to Qube is part of a trend of DeepMind alumni joining hedge funds. Last month, Su Wang, another former DeepMind employee, joined Balyasny Asset Management’s applied AI team to develop an AI chatbot called BAMChatGPT. Similarly, Grégoire Delétang, a former DeepMind staff scientist, joined Squarepoint Capital in July as a quantitative researcher.
