Capula recruits former Man AHL PM

Capula Investment Management has hired Tom Bowles, the former head of portfolio management and later head of liquid alternatives trading at Man Group’s AHL quant division, marking another senior addition to the macro hedge fund’s investment team, according to a report by eFinancial Careers.

Bowles has recently returned from gardening leave following an 18-year career at Man AHL, where he held several senior portfolio management roles within the firm’s systematic trading business. His appointment at Capula Investment Management has reportedly not been formally commented on by either party.

At Man AHL, Bowles was part of the partnership structure within the quant investment unit, which manages systematic strategies across global markets. Partnership compensation data indicates that senior AHL partners shared substantial profit pools in recent years, alongside base remuneration.

It is not yet clear whether Bowles will join Capula’s partnership structure, though market participants expect that senior hires of this calibre are typically integrated at partner level within the organisation.

Capula, one of Europe’s leading macro hedge fund managers, has continued to expand its investment team through 2026, with multiple portfolio manager hires across its London platform. Recent additions include Robert Burleigh, previously a trader at Jain Global, who has transitioned into a portfolio management role.

The firm has also been active in retaining key talent. In one recent case, FX portfolio manager Tarun Tyagi, who had been expected to join Millennium Management following a period of gardening leave, ultimately remained at Capula after the firm intervened to retain him.
