Hedge fund Ghisallo taps ex-Morgan Stanley ECM banker for APAC role

Alex Abagian, former co-head of Asia Pacific equity capital markets at Morgan Stanley, is set to join hedge fund Ghisallo Capital Management taking on a senior role in the firm’s APAC team, according to a report by Bloomberg.

The report cites unnamed sources familiar with the matter as confirming that Abagian, who departed the US bank at the end of 2022, will take up his new Sydney-based role next month.

A 20-year veteran at Morgan Stanley, Abagian began his career at the firm’s London office in 2000 before relocating to the Asia-Pacific region in 2010, working in Sydney and later Hong Kong.

Ghisallo, headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, secured a regulatory license in Hong Kong last year and has been expanding its regional presence. The fund recently hired another former Morgan Stanley equity syndicate banker, Kun Lin Ho.

Led by founder Michael Germino, who previously worked at Soros Fund Management and Key Square Group, Ghisallo has been an active participant in Asian equity capital markets deals since its inception five years ago.
