Hong Kong hedge fund Polymer hires former Balyasny PM to expand Asia team

Related Topics

Hong Kong-based Polymer Capital has added Balyasnay Asset Management’s Watson Lau as a portfolio manager, strengthening the fund’s long-short equities capabilities in Asia, according to a report by eFinancial Careers.

Lau spent the past two years as a portfolio manager at Dimitri Balyasny’s multi-strategy hedge fund, having previously worked for seven years as an investment analyst at Point72.

The hire is part of Polymer’s broader expansion plans. Last year, the fund recruited Larry Cho, a former Millennium PM, and Tokyo-based Takehiro Yamamoto from SMBC’s asset management unit to support Japan-focused strategies. Polymer continues to hire in the region, including business development specialists to attract portfolio managers for its Japanese funds.
