Largest ever Point72 summer intern programme kicks off

The largest ever summer intern programme got underway at Steve Cohen’s multi-strategy hedge fund firm Point72 Asset Management this week, as 55 college students took up their places on the eight-week long training scheme, according to a report by Bloomberg.

The interns were selected from over 30,000 applicants from , over 75 universities worldwide, with the programme serving as the first phase in a multi-year training process designed for students aspiring to secure full-time positions at the $33.9bn firm.

During the eight weeks, interns rotate through over 35 different investment teams, engaging in tasks from basic modelling to industry research, culminating in pitching an investment idea. The first week features introductions and basic training in a classroom setting, followed by immediate project assignments and the chance to take in a a New York Mets game, the baseball team owned by Cohen.

Successful summer interns, typically between their junior and senior years, are invited back to the Point72 Academy post-graduation for a 10-month intensive training programme, which often leads to full-time roles. Last year, about 74% of interns received offers to join the academy, with 97% accepting.

This summer, interns will be placed across Point72’s 10 global offices, including New York City, Stamford, Chicago, San Francisco, West Palm Beach, Miami, London, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Singapore.
