Millennium hires former Squarepoint commodities specialist to expand agricultural trading

Related Topics

Millennium Management has strengthened its commodities platform with the hire of Amit Sinha, the former head of agricultural trading at Squarepoint Capital, as the multi-manager hedge fund continues to build out its agricultural commodities capabilities, according to a report by eFinancial Careers.

Sinha joins Millennium in Switzerland after spending the past four years at Squarepoint, where he established and led the firm’s agricultural trading business from inception. His responsibilities included building the team and developing both systematic and discretionary investment strategies focused on agricultural markets.

Neither Sinha nor Millennium has reportedly commented publicly on his new role.

The appointment comes as competition for experienced commodities portfolio managers remains intense, particularly among the large multi-manager hedge fund platforms that continue to invest heavily in specialist trading teams, or “pods”, across a broad range of asset classes.

Sinha brings experience spanning hedge funds, investment banks, commodity trading firms and agricultural supply chain businesses. His expertise centres on grains and oilseed markets, with a background in both quantitative and discretionary trading approaches.

Millennium has steadily expanded its agricultural commodities franchise in recent years, particularly in Switzerland, where it has assembled several specialist portfolio managers.

Among them are Jonathan Kroft, who joined from Citadel in 2023, and former Cargill traders Davy Malca and Todd Thul, who joined in 2024 and 2022 respectively.
