Millennium hires longtime Citadel stockpicker

Related Topics

Millennium Management has hired veteran equity investor Daniel Mazur as a senior portfolio manager, marking the latest move in the ongoing competition for investment talent among the largest multi-strategy hedge funds, according to a report by Business Insider.

The report cites an unnamed person familiar with the matter as revealing that Mazur is joining the firm founded by Izzy Englander after nearly a decade at Citadel, where he worked as a portfolio manager in the firm’s Global Equities division.

Both Millennium and Citadel reportedly declined to comment on the appointment.

Mazur joined Citadel in 2016 as a stockpicker within the firm’s equities business. Earlier this year his portfolio was reportedly wound down, with two members of his team – Brad Gemberling and Greg Fitter – promoted to portfolio manager roles.

Based in Chicago, Mazur previously spent close to 12 years at Harvest Capital Strategies before moving to Citadel.

His latest move highlights the intensifying battle for investment professionals among the largest multi-manager hedge funds. Firms such as Millennium, Citadel, Point72 and Balyasny Asset Management are widely known for competing aggressively for portfolio managers and analysts, often offering compensation packages that include guaranteed payouts and sign-on incentives.
