North American hedge fund assets under management (AUM) reached $3.66tn by the end of 2023, an 8.3% increase from the $3.37tn seen in 2022, according to a report by Pensions & Investments online citing new data from alternative investments data provider Preqin.
Since 2017, hedge fund assets in the region have grown by more than 39%, reflecting an annualised growth rate of 5.7%. However, this growth is expected to slow, with a projected rate of 4.7% over the next six years, bringing the total AUM to $4.81tn by 2029.
Despite the slowdown, North America continues to outpace other regions in hedge fund asset growth, and this trend is expected to persist. In 2023, the region accounted for 81% of global hedge fund assets, up from 72% in 2015. By 2029, North America’s share of the global market is projected to rise further to 84%.
