Schonfeld Strategic Advisors is expanding into Latin America with plans to open a São Paulo office led by Andre Laport, co-founder of Vinland Capital and a former Goldman Sachs partner, establishing the New York-based firm’s first foothold in Brazil, according to a report by Bloomberg.
Laport, who joined Schonfeld in July, will oversee both the São Paulo buildout and broader expansion across Latin America.
Schonfeld has already tapped Heitor Ramos, previously a Portfolio Manager at LTS Investments, to join the new team, while economist Paulo Capeleti is expected to move from SPX Gestao de Recursos in October. The firm is preparing to add further hires in the region.
Founded in 1988 and run by CEO and CIO Ryan Tolkin, Schonfeld operates a multi-manager platform spanning quantitative, fundamental equity, tactical trading, and discretionary macro and fixed income strategies. The firm employs around 1,000 people worldwide.
