Elon Musk's electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla has emerged as the most shorted large-cap US stock for the third consecutive month in August after topping the rankings in securities lending data specialist Hazeltree's latest Shortside Crowdedness Report.
According to the report, which provides a monthly listing of the top 10 shorted securities in the Americas, EMEA and APAC regions in the large-, mid-, and small-cap ranges, the second and third most shorted stocks last month were Charter Communications and Apple, respectively.
The data contained in the report comes from Hazeltree’s proprietary securities finance platform data, which tracks approximately 12,000 global equities across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC. The data is aggregated and anonymised from the contributing Hazeltree community, which includes approximately 700 asset manager funds.
