Top quant leaves Point72’s Cubist for senior Millennium role

Related Topics

Millennium Management has recruited top quant Alborz Elizei from Cubist Systematic Strategies, the quantitative arm of Point72, in a notable hire that strengthens its already deep bench of systematic talent, according to a report by eFinancial Careers.

Dubai-based Elizei is understood to have been a key portfolio manager within the team led by Gilles Morihain at Cubist. His move to Millennium marks the end of a long professional relationship, with Morihain who has supported his career since their days at Société Générale.

Neither Millennium nor Point72 commented on the departure. However, industry insiders note that Ross Garon, Millennium’s Global Head of Quantitative Strategies and a former Cubist executive himself, may have played a role in Elizei’s recruitment. Garon joined Millennium in 2020 and previously overlapped with Elizei at both SAC Capital and Cubist.

Elizei spent over a decade at Cubist and began his career as a junior quant at SocGen in Paris. He followed Morihain to Point72 in 2014, two years after Morihain’s own move from SocGen.
