Trump Media pitches hedge funds $100,000 monthly fee for faster Truth Social data feed

Trump Media & Technology Group is seeking to charge hedge funds and proprietary trading firms as much as $100,000 a month for faster access to Donald Trump’s posts on Truth Social, potentially turning the US president’s social media activity into a premium source of market intelligence, according to a report by the Financial Times.

The company has discussed the six-figure monthly fee with potential customers of its new Truth API data service, according to people familiar with the matter.

The service is designed to provide real-time access to posts from Truth Social, where Trump regularly comments on issues ranging from trade policy and tariffs to wars and other geopolitical developments that can trigger sharp moves across financial markets.

For high-frequency trading firms and systematic hedge funds, the speed at which market-moving information is received can be critical. Traders routinely pay substantial sums for faster data feeds, with even milliseconds potentially affecting the profitability of a trade.

The launch of the API has prompted concern among some investors about the prospect of having to pay a company controlled by the president’s family for faster access to information that could move markets.

Trump Media, which is majority owned by the Trump family, controls Truth Social. The company did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Trump has approximately 12.9 million followers on the platform and has frequently used it to communicate on major political and economic developments.

His posts have previously been associated with significant market moves. Ahead of the Trump administration’s decision to pause a series of tariffs last year, the president posted that it was a “great time to buy”, shortly before the S&P 500 recorded an historic 9.5% one-day rally.

More recently, a post saying there had been “very good and productive conversations with Iran” after the outbreak of war between the US and Iran sent oil prices sharply lower.

The Truth API is expected to operate continuously, providing data 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Other social media platforms, including X, already provide data feeds used by algorithmic traders through financial terminals and specialist market-data providers. But the market-moving nature of Trump’s posts could make the Truth API particularly relevant to firms running event-driven, high-frequency and systematic strategies.

The proposed pricing underlines the growing value placed on speed in modern trading, particularly when political communication can generate immediate moves in equities, currencies, commodities and interest-rate markets.
