IIM’s Hybrid Strategy outperforms benchmark by 25 per cent since launch

Incline Investment Management (IIM) is marking the fourth anniversary of its proprietary investment program, the Systematic Hybrid Strategy, which has outperformed its benchmark, the HFRX Macro: Systematic Diversified CTA Index by close to 25 per cent since its launch in July 2012.

The strategy’s objective is to provide non-correlated diversification with equity-like volatility. IIM says a classic case of the ‘crisis alpha’ it offers was apparent the day after the Brexit vote on 23 June when the Strategy was up 9.5 per cent. The Systematic Hybrid Strategy was up 9.45 per cent in June.

In response to demand for non-correlated investment strategies, IIM has expanded distribution and hired a new Business Development Team, hiring three new financial professionals to assist advisors and investors.

Bryan Duffy (pictured), has joined the firm as Director, Business Development. He is an experienced financial wholesaler and was previously Regional Director at Natixis Global Asset Management and an Internal Business Consultant at John Hancock. Duffy says: “I am very excited about joining IIM. After working for 10 years in the mutual fund space for two premier asset managers, I wanted to leverage my experience at a firm that utilises the type of strategy every investor should have in their portfolio. The expertise from the founders of IIM, combined with their passion and commitment, I believe is the combination to create a great opportunity in a very exciting and dynamic space.”

He holds a BA from Merrimack College and is a Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC). He is based in Oakland, CA.

Ian Chester, another experienced financial wholesaler, has also been appointed as Director, Business Development. He was previously a Vice President, Business Development at Realty Capital Securities, in Boston, MA.

Chester says: “I was looking to join a firm whose mission statement I believed in. I am excited to be part of a team that has created an investment strategy that diversifies away risk and has the potential to protect investors in the event of the next downturn. During these turbulent times, I am also seeing the tremendous value in the systematic space. When no one seems to be able to make sense of things, it is comforting to provide a strategy that is unwavering in its discipline.”

CHester earned an MBA from Babson College and is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) candidate. He is based in Boston, MA.

Cory Johnson has joined as an Associate. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in entrepreneurship with a concentration in marketing and global business management from Sierra Nevada College.

Johnson says, “I’m excited to introduce investors to the powerful benefits of alternative investment strategies and the value they can add to traditional portfolios.”
