Andre du Plessis, the ex-chief executive of Coronation Fund Managers, is to join Watson Wyatt Investment Consulting as a senior investment consultant.
He said: "It is interesting to see how many trustees are radically rethinking their approach to risk and asset allocation and I feel it is an exciting time to be a part of this change as an investment consultant. I am also looking forward to working in a team of highly professional colleagues that have a global and innovative approach to consulting, underpinned by market-leading research."
Du Plessis, who has a background in fund management and investment banking, joins from Coronation Fund Managers (the institutional Funds of Hedge Funds business) where he was Chief Executive for the past three and a half years. Prior to heading up Coronation, he was a director and head of the Emerging Markets division at HSBC Investment Bank in London and at NatWest Markets. He will start at Watson Wyatt in October.
Kevin Carter, European Head of Investment Consulting at Watson Wyatt, said: "I am very pleased to welcome Andre to the firm. It is a real coup for us that such a high-calibre and experienced investment professional like Andre has decided to join us and we look forward to working with him as we continue to grow our consulting capability to meet broader client requirements."
Du Plessis' 25 years experience covers institutional investment management and investment strategy research in various large and specialist institutions. More recently, he has been involved in the selection and monitoring of hedge fund managers and allocations to the different alternative strategies while running a fund management business.
