Trusted hire: Odey names ex-CQS equities man for new institutional hedge fund business role

Odey Asset Management, Crispin Odey’s long-running hedge fund firm, has hired former CQS and Pensato Capital man Jos Trusted as head of institutional business, a newly-created role aimed at expanding institutional business and developing the firm’s product range.

As well as focusing on growing institutional business through the development of its product range, Trusted will help spearhead the recruitment of new investment managers and the diversification of its international client base, with a strong focus on actively managed strategies.

Before joining Odey, Trusted was CEO of the New City Equity business at CQS, the high-profile multi-strategy credit-focused hedge fund giant led by Sir Michael Hintze. There, he helped lead the launch of its long-only equity investment business.

Prior to CQS, he was a partner at the European equities asset manager Pensato Capital.

Trusted’s hire follows the launch of two new actively managed funds last year – the Odey Concentrated Natural Resources fund, an Irish QIAIF managed by Henry Steel, and the Odey Special Situations fund, an Irish UCITS run by Adrian Courtenay.

Trusted said Odey is now well-positioned to grow its institutional offering, combining significant investment pedigree with deep industry connectivity.

“Actively managed equity funds, with low market correlation, are increasingly important sources of outperformance for asset allocators,” he added.

Tim Pearey, partner and CEO at Odey Asset Management, pointed to the growing opportunities emerging for active managers in a “fast-changing” marketplace.

“He has a strong track record of strategic business development and long experience of the investment management industry,” he said of Trusted’s appointment.
