Evgeny Gokhberg, Founder and Managing Partner at Re7 Capital – winner of both the Liquid Ventures Fund of the Year: Annual Excellence and Sustained Excellence awards at the 2025 Hedgeweek Global Digital Assets Awards – shares how the firm successfully navigates the decentralised finance landscape, achieving four consecutive years of positive performance.
Please describe your firm’s flagship investment strategy.
Re7 Capital is a digital assets investment firm specialising in decentralised finance (DeFi) yield and liquid alpha strategies. Re7’s flagship strategies combine market-neutral yield with directional liquid opportunities as well as private market special sits.
Our edge lies in a proprietary built analytics system which provides real-time alerts and datapoints for blockchain yields, fundamental KPIs, and risk events. As a result, Re7 runs strategies that are uncorrelated to anything else allocators may be holding with strong positive return asymmetry.
What are the three key selling points of your business and investment thesis?
Deep digital asset ecosystem: Re7 grew into a digital asset ecosystem – combining DeFi expertise, protocol and founder access, bespoke software infrastructure, blockchain advisory, and capital deployment, to drive alpha and unlock alpha generating opportunities.
Institutional access to DeFi: We provide HNWIs and institutions with secure, regulated exposure to DeFi. Through robust risk frameworks, curated vaults, and compliant structures, we bridge traditional finance standards with on-chain opportunity.
Crypto-native intelligence: Our team has been building and investing in DeFi since 2018. With proprietary infrastructure, active protocol engagement, and real-time on-chain intelligence, we source edge early – before it shows up in mainstream data.
What has been the biggest challenge your investment strategy has faced since its inception?
Unlike traditional markets, crypto is 24/7/365. Managers have to be agile enough to respond effectively and efficiently to ongoing developments endogenous and exogenous to crypto markets that may directly inform risk management. This has particularly been the case over the last 12 months, with the crypto-friendly US election, shifting monetary policies, and regulatory developments all driving market volatility.
We have navigated these challenges by evolving and leveraging our proprietary data analytics platforms connected to >30 providers for >650+ assets that automatically inform market structure and underpin scenario analyses to stress test outcomes.
What has been the most significant change you’ve observed in the global crypto industry in the past 12 months?
The last 12 months have arguably been the most eventful from a global adoption perspective of both the technology and as an investable asset class, given the global regulatory developments.
A stand out theme has been institutional and corporations incorporating blockchain technology within their existing business stack: financial institutions like BlackRock and Franklin Templeton putting nearly $4bn of tokenised treasuries on-chain, global payment companies like PayPal or Visa pushing out stablecoin initiatives, or AT&T using Helium’s decentralised network to bolster WiFi signal to their 100m+ customers.
This seems to support our thesis of blockchain fast entering its ‘Golden Age’ adoption curve.
How do you see investor appetite shifting over the next year?
Investor appetite for crypto is likely to shift toward a more diversified and strategic approach, driven by macroeconomic trends, and technological advancements.
We expect to see continued growing interest from investors to look beyond beta (BTC) into alternative assets with high-growth potential with proven fundamentals in order to more effectively capture the growth of crypto.
We expect to see more and more institutions move on chain and the backend of legacy financial institutions to evolve and utilise the unparalleled benefits of composable and decentralised financial rails.
For fund managers, the trend is becoming clear: Investors will increasingly evaluate managers on their experience, tooling, and operational edge.
