Director, Head of Bermuda Funds Practice

Dawn Griffiths is a Director in the Corporate department of Conyers Dill & Pearman and is Head of the Bermuda Funds Practice. She joined Conyers in 1995 and became Director in 2002.

Dawn, whose practice includes all aspects of corporate and commercial law, specialises in securities law and the establishment of hedge funds, private equity funds and fund structures investing in insurance-linked securities. Her clients include many of the pre-eminent global financial advisory and asset management groups and asset class leaders.

Internationally recognised as a leading lawyer, Dawn is recommended for her offshore corporate and funds expertise in a number of directories including Legal 500 and Who’s Who Legal. She has contributed to various legal publications on securities law and investment funds.

Conyers Dill Pearman Briant Robert

Robert Briant

Partner, Head of BVI Corporate

Robert Briant is a Partner and Head of the Corporate department in the British Virgin Islands office of Conyers Dill & Pearman. Robert joined Conyers in 1994 and is highly regarded for his extensive experience in all aspects of corporate and commercial law.

Robert is considered one of the most senior corporate lawyers in the BVI and focuses on mergers and acquisitions, joint venture companies and investment vehicles. He provides specialist advice to hedge funds and private equity funds, as well as advising on a broad range of financing transactions. His clients include Diageo, Burger King, the Virgin Group, Denham Capital, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, Commerzbank and others.

Robert is a member of BVI Finance Limited’s Board of Directors, a public/private partnership created to develop further BVIs financial services industry. He also sits on the Securities, Investment Business and Mutual Funds Advisory Committee and is also a member of the Joint Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Advisory Committee of the BVI. Robert was also responsible for forming and chairs a consortium of the largest law firms in the BVI to make recommendations to Government on issues affecting financial services in the BVI. He is also regular contributor to the media on matters of BVI law.

Robert is consistently recognized in the top tier in Chambers Global, Legal 500 and IFLR1000. Robert holds a BA from McGill University, an LLB from University of Toronto and an LLM from Cambridge University.

Kevin Butler

Partner, Head of Cayman Islands Office

Kevin Butler is a Partner and Head of the Cayman Islands office of Conyers Dill & Pearman. Kevin joined Conyers in 1997 in Bermuda and moved to the Cayman Islands in 2004. His practice includes all aspects of corporate and commercial law.

Kevin focuses on structuring, formation and management of private equity funds and he represents a broad range of investment managers from the well-established to start-up managers. He also has extensive experience with project financing, aviation finance, mergers and acquisitions, private placements and public offerings. Kevin is well versed in insurance, reinsurance and alternative risk transfer including captives and insurance linked securities.

Kevin has been consistently ranked in Chambers Global since 2013. Clients highlight him as “someone who understands the client’s needs and delivers practical advice.” Kevin is also ranked in IFRL1000, Who’s Who Legal and Legal 500 Caribbean.

Kevin is Vice President of the Cayman Islands Law Society, a Director of LIFE (Literacy is for Everyone) and an Alternate Director of Cayman Finance.

Piers Alexander

Partner

Piers Alexander is a Partner in the Hong Kong office of Conyers Dill & Pearman. He has worked at Conyers since 2002. Prior to Conyers, Piers worked at Clifford Chance in the investment funds practice group both in London and Hong Kong.

Piers’ practice includes all aspects of corporate law with particular expertise in investment funds, including private equity, venture capital, real estate and hedge funds.

He acts as offshore adviser for international and Asia-based fund managers on the establishment of investment fund structures, through all aspects of the continuing operations and other long-term business requirements of investment funds.
