Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking has announced the appointment of Grégoire Déchy as head of hedge fund relations for the Asia-Pacific region, responsible for developing new and existing hedge fund relationships and introducing these clients to the range of market products and services offered by the bank.

This newly-created position reflects the growing importance of hedge funds as a strategic business for Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking, the firm says, and its commitment to providing these clients with global coverage and local expertise.

Déchy previously worked at Newedge, the brokerage business created last year from the merger of Société Générale’s Fimat and Crédit Agricole’s Calyon Financial, having joined Fimat in London in 2001 as a business development executive.

He took part in the development of the prime brokerage platform for hedge funds and commodity trading advisors in London before becoming head of business and product development for Asia with the prime brokerage division of Fimat Hong Kong in 2005.

Déchy will report to Paul Wiltshire, based in London, and Pascal Vallot, based in New York, the firm’s global heads of hedge fund relations, and also locally to De Doan Tran, head of Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking for the Asia-Pacific region.

Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking has a network encompassing 13 Asia-Pacific countries and is active in the region in capital markets, derivatives and structured finance.
