Climate Change Capital appoints Shaun Mays as chief investment officer
Climate Change Capital, an investment manager and advisor specialising in opportunities created by the transition to the low carbon economy, has recruited Shaun Mays from Deutsche Asset Management as its chief investment officer.
Mays, formerly chief executive of Rreef Infrastructure Investments, has more than 20 years experience in the funds management industry in both executive and investment positions in the UK, Australia and the US. He was also responsible for the Mays report entitled Corporate Sustainability: An Investment Perspective, for the Australian government in 2003.
'We are delighted to welcome a man with such stature and respect within the investment community,' says Climate Change Capital chief executive Mark Woodall. 'His knowledge as both a manager and investor of funds, and his environmental credentials, will be invaluable to us as we seek to grow the breadth and scale of our company, dedicated to the business of creating a low carbon economy. Shaun will be taking responsibility for all existing funds as well as for the development of new funds.'
Says Mays: 'Climate Change Capital has a great business proposition - strong financial returns through sustainable investments in a matter that concerns us all, climate change. That is difficult to resist.'
Climate Change Capital, which says its aim is to make the world's environment cleaner while delivering attractive financial returns, currently manages carbon, property, private equity, listed equities and UK renewables funds with a total of USD1.6bn under management.
Its carbon finance team develops and manages funds that invest in greenhouse gas reduction projects and their underlying assets, primarily in the developing world, as well as in companies that provide technologies or services facilitating greenhouse gas reductions. The Climate Change Capital Carbon Funds have more than EUR800m under management.
The group's fund management team develops and manages funds that invest in companies, projects and technologies that provide products or services facilitating climate change mitigation or adaptation.
These include the Ventus Funds, which invest in UK onshore renewable projects, the climate Change Capital Private Equity Fund, which invests expansion capital into later stage clean-tech companies in UK and Europe, the Global Environmental Opportunities Fund which invests in medium-sized to large publicly-quoted companies worldwide whose valuations are influenced by the environment, and the Climate Change Capital Property Fund, which aims to invest in commercial property to meet energy efficiency standards.
The group also has an advisory division that provides financial, strategic and policy advice to energy-intensive industries, financial institutions, clean technology companies and governments.
