Vermillion Asset Management, a New York City-based commodities-focused asset management firm, has appointed Cecile Mattei as director, business development and investor relations.

Mattei joins a four person business development and investor relations team supporting both alpha and beta strategies in commodities.

“We are confident that Cecile will greatly enhance our efforts as we continue to strengthen and diversify our investor base,” says Drew Gilbert, co-managing partner of Vermillion. “We have enjoyed strong growth and continue to see demand as investors seek out and increase their exposure to commodities.”

Mattei joined Vermillion in August 2010. Previously, she was at Van Eck Global, where she focused on business development for long-only funds, hedge funds and private equity strategies in commodities, energy and emerging markets. Additionally, Mattei’s responsibilities at Van Eck included sourcing and executing private equity investments in oil, gas and renewable energy.

Prior to asset management, Mattei worked for over eight years in capital markets and investment banking, starting in Credit Lyonnais Capital Markets’ interest rate derivatives group in Hong Kong. She later held increasing positions of responsibility at Morgan Stanley in Paris, London and New York City, where among other roles, she worked in the global energy group and with the strategic ventures private equity team. Following Morgan Stanley, Mattei joined JPMorgan where she focused on middle market transactions and advisory, in Paris and the US.

Before joining Van Eck Global, Cecile worked on opening the North American franchise of the real estate and infrastructure practice of a London-based management consulting and search firm.
