Highbridge Capital Management LLC has appointed Arjun Menon as the firm’s Asia head as it looks to place more emphasis on high-yield credit, convertible bonds and volatility trading in its regional investments reported Bloomberg this week. Former regional head Carl Huttenlocher left in March to start his own Hong Kong hedge fund, Myriad Asset Management, which started trading last week. Menon then co-headed the Asia business with Shyan Wen Lim, an equity fund manager who left the firm this week according to private sources with knowledge of the matter. With the MSCI Asia-Pacific Index down 15 per cent this year the opportunities in high-yield credit and convertibles appear more attractive. Apparently, Menon’s strategy, which accounts for around 70 per cent of Highbridge’s USD1billion of investments in Asia, returned approximately 9 per cent this year. The firm is in the process of hiring three more people for the high-yield, convertible and volatility strategy, one of who will be appointed as fund manager and Menon’s deputy in the region. Highbridge runs USD27billion of assets globally.
