BMO Global Asset Management launches Alternative Strategies Fund

Related Topics

BMO Global Asset Management has launched the BMO Alternative Strategies Fund, which seeks to provide investors with an additional source of portfolio diversification and return over varying market environments.

This addition to the BMO Fund lineup reflects the firm's commitment to improving investors' investment outcomes. The addition expands the fund roster of the firm to 48.

"With market conditions that can easily fluctuate, investors should pay closer attention to the sources of risk when choosing investment products," says Craig Rawlins, Chief Investment Officer for BMO Global Asset Management. "The range of strategies employed within the BMO Alternative Strategies Fund seek to improve diversification while providing liquidity that is typically not associated with alternative strategies. This Fund also provides a broader range of investors with access to non-traditional investment strategies, which are often available only to institutional and ultra high-net-worth investors."

The Fund will be managed by BMO Asset Management Corp in collaboration with CTC/myCFO, LLC, an affiliate of BMO Financial Group with decades of experience in alternative investment research and customised portfolio construction. CTC/myCFO will provide strategic recommendations regarding the selection of multiple underlying sub-advisers and the allocations among them, as well as ongoing monitoring.

"Brought together to form a single Fund, the underlying managers' strategies combine to meet the overall investment objective of capital appreciation using a broad range of strategies," says Lowell Yura, CFA, ASA, Head of Multi-Asset Solutions, BMO Global Asset Management and Portfolio Manager of the Fund.

Some of the strategies employed in the Fund include long/short equity, capital structure arbitrage and event-driven tactics. Jointly, the strategies emphasise absolute return, relying less on the direction of markets to meet client objectives.

Yura says: "When added to a portfolio of traditional equity and fixed income strategies, we expect clients to experience less volatility as they seek to meet their return objectives."

The BMO Alternative Strategies Fund joins the 15 new funds BMO has already rolled out in 2014. "At BMO, we strive to offer a strong selection of funds to meet investors' many long-term needs; this new fund reflects our commitment," says Rawlins.
