WHV Investments adds Rivington Investment team

Related Topics

WHV Investments has added the Rivington investment team to the company’s in-house portfolio managers. Rivington joins WHV from Victory Capital Management, bringing with them three highly regarded global equity strategies.

The strategies are:

• Rivington Diversified Global Equity by WHV
• Rivington Diversified International Equity by WHV
• Rivington Select International Equity by WHV

All three Rivington strategies seek to deliver attractive risk-adjusted returns over time while emphasising enhanced diversification, lower volatility, and capital preservation. Central to these Strategies is the concept of corporate life cycles, which captures the relationship between a company’s competitive challenges and its economic performance and valuation as it evolves.

They are available as separate accounts and SMA/UMAs, while the two diversified strategies are also available as mutual funds. Rivington Diversified Global Equity Fund by WHV is available in Class A (WVRAX), Class C (WVRCX), and Class I (WVRIX) shares; Rivington Diversified International Equity Fund by WHV is available in Class A (WHRAX), Class C (WHRCX), and Class I (WHRIX) shares (“the Funds”).

The addition of the New York-based Rivington investment team also marks the opening of WHV’s first office in New York City at 1330 Avenue of the Americas.

WHV Chief Executive Officer and President, Andrew Turner, says: “We are thrilled to have Rivington join the WHV family. They bring a unique viewpoint to global investing that sets their strategies apart from more conventional approaches. And we’re excited to see the opening of our New York office. It’s our first anchor on the East Coast and nicely complements our long-standing West Coast presence.”

These announcements are the result of WHV’s continued focus on engaging exceptional investment teams in creating compelling investment strategies for our clients.

“These guys brought these strategies to four- and five-star levels at Victory, so we’re thrilled to have that experience in-house now,” says Scott Blankenship (pictured), Managing Director and Head of Intermediary Sales and Distribution at WHV. “They’ve historically been institutionally focused, so it’s also exciting to make largely undiscovered portfolio managers available to the broader audience that WHV can reach.”

The Rivington investment team comprises Senior Portfolio Managers Matthias Knerr, CFA; Chris LaJaunie, CFA; and Andrew Manton. They join WHV after a decade of working together at Deutsche Asset Management and Victory Capital Management, where the team developed its distinctive life cycle approach.

In managing the Strategies, Rivington employs its life cycle approach to all aspects of the investment process. The approach is based upon a fundamental premise that a company generates value for its shareholders by successfully redeploying capital over time. By focusing on a company’s returns and reinvestment rate, Rivington believes that more accurate assumptions can be made about future cash flow generation so that only the best investment ideas are considered for the portfolios.

“We believe that approaching these portfolios from the framework of corporate life cycle stages helps us focus on the companies in the investable universe that are most likely to outperform, which tends to enhance diversification and lower volatility from the start,” says Matthias Knerr, a Senior Portfolio Manager for the Strategies. “It’s allowed us identify mispriced securities that we believe will deliver attractive returns that might not have been identified by more conventional investment approaches. So we’re very excited to be joining WHV and making these strategies available on a larger scale.”
