Stephanie Niven, Portfolio Manager – Fundamental Strategies at Javelin Capital LLP, has been awarded the Young Professional of the Year award at the Women in Banking and Finance (WIBF) 2011 Awards for Achievement.

The winners were revealed at a luncheon held at the Dorchester Hotel in London on 10th June 2011.  Also honoured were: Carole Berndt, head of Global Treasury Solutions for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, who won the WIBF Award for Achievement; and Vanessa Vallely, Head of Business Management – Finance at Aviva Investors, who was named WIBF Champion for Women.

Niven was part of a three person team from Goldman Sachs that established Javelin Capital in 2009, where she serves as a Portfolio Manager on the Global Equity Strategies Fund. She worked at Goldman Sachs International from July 2005 following an internship in the previous year. She was a member of the Global Active Equity team in the Asset Management division, where she covered both the Basic Materials and the Industrials sectors. Biven also ran a basket in the multi-approach Emerging Markets equity long-short strategy, which invested in global materials and industrials names. Stephanie graduated from Merton College, Oxford University in 2005 with Double First Class Honours in History (Modern). She is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder.

Incoming President of WIBF, Sylvana Caloni commented: “Stephanie is a tremendous role model to young women, and men alike, to set a goal, make a plan and do what it takes to realise it, undeterred by not having the typical background of an economics or finance graduate.”

The WIBF awards highlight individuals who embody the values of innovation, accountability, responsibility and long-term commitment to clients and community that will drive the future success of Britain’s financial services.
