Global professional services, insurance and reinsurance broking firm Aon has promoted Matthew Towsey to Global Head of Hedge Funds and Diversifying Strategies, expanding his leadership role within the firm’s investment advisory business, according to a report by Artemis.
Towsey, who joined Aon in 2011, has steadily risen through the ranks, building a deep track record in hedge fund research and advisory, with a particular focus on liquid alternatives, quantitative strategies, macro, hybrid, and insurance-linked securities (ILS). His promotion places him at the helm of Aon’s global hedge fund advisory platform, overseeing a team that sources, evaluates, and manages hedge fund strategies for a global allocator client base.
Aon’s hedge fund and diversifying strategies team plays a critical role for institutional clients navigating complex market conditions and seeking uncorrelated returns. The group also remains active in the ILS market, an area Towsey has long championed as a resilient and diversifying alternative asset class.
In commentary earlier this year, Towsey highlighted the continuing strength of ILS markets despite recurring large insured losses, pointing to improved underwriting terms and high yields. “High coupons, natural diversification to traditional assets and increased resilience should be on every investor’s wishlist at this time of year,” he noted.
