Balyasny Asset Management has strengthened its equities long-short platform with the appointment of Luka Spoljaric, who joins from rival firm Walleye after a brief hiatus from the market, according to a report by eFinancial Careers.
Spoljaric spent two years as a portfolio manager at Walleye and an earlier two-year stint as a senior analyst at Citadel.
Spoljaric also co-founded Portsea Asset Management in 2015, steering the firm to £2.4m in profits in the year prior to his departure. At Balyasny, he will work under founder Dimitry Balyasny within a team that counted 68 portfolio managers as of May 2025.
This hire follows a broader reshaping at Walleye in 2025, which saw arrivals from Eisler Capital, Citadel Securities, and Millennium alongside a series of staff departures and two layoffs earlier in the year.
