Dalton Strategic Partnership (DSP) has strengthened its multi asset team with the appointment of Luca Vaiani as a portfolio manager.
He will form part of a six strong team involved in managing the firm’s Melchior Global Multi-Asset Fund and will work alongside Rupert Caldecott, chief investment officer.
Vaiani was previously at Fondaco SGR where he was portfolio manager of the Fondaco Global Opportunities Fund, a multi asset absolute return fund. From the beginning of 2008 until his departure in August 2012 he delivered a cumulative return of 20.3 per cent with an annualised volatility of 7.3 per cent and a low correlation with equities. This compares to a return of 3.1 per cent from global equities (MSCI ACWI net return) over the same period.
The Melchior Global Multi-Asset Fund targets a return of Libor plus four per cent p.a. over a rolling three year period, with volatility of less than eight per cent per annum, whilst also exhibiting a low correlation with equity markets. It has the flexibility to allocate to a broad range of asset classes and investment vehicles.
Caldecott says: “Luca is a valuable addition to our multi asset team. He is a high quality investor with over 14 year’s investment experience and a proven record of delivering absolute returns in tough markets and across the economic cycle.”
