Exotix, a London-based broker specialising in illiquid and frontier emerging markets, has expanded its New York operation with the appointment of Ashley Bendell as associate director of equity sales and Michael Muller as a fixed-income broker.

Bendell joined Exotix in October 2006 to lead the firm’s US-based African equity sales effort. He was previously part of Credit Suisse’s equity sales team for Europe, the Middle East and Africa in New York and began his career in prime brokerage sales with Credit Suisse in London, working with start-up and established global hedge funds.

Muller has extensive experience in both emerging market corporate and high yield sales. He has also worked in the emerging market buy-side at CSFB Asset Management.

‘These high-profile appointments demonstrate our commitment to the continued growth of our operations in the US,’ says Exotix managing director Peter Bartlett. ‘We are very pleased to have someone of Ashley’s calibre to promote sub-Saharan equity sales, and we are confident that Michael will expand our debt sales coverage.’

Exotix specialises in the arrangement, placement and trading of debt and equity products in illiquid and frontier emerging markets where financial markets are not well developed, debt trading is illiquid and stock exchanges small, and it is often difficult for non-locals to invest, but which offer potential for rapid growth.

With offices in London, New York, Buenos Aires and Sao Paolo, Exotix is a leading player in the debt markets of various African and Latin American countries as well as esoteric markets such as Cuba, Bosnia and North Korea. Its global client base largely comprises hedge funds, asset managers, banks and other institutional investors in emerging market assets.
