Yves Masselin, a former portfolio manager at now-defunct multi-strategy hedge fund Eisler Capital, has joined Verition Fund Management as a portfolio manager in the firm’s London office, according to a report by Financial News London.
The report cites an unnamed person familiar with the matter as confirming the appointment.
Masselin, an equity derivatives trading specialist, spent nearly three years at Eisler Capital before the firm shut down its operations last year amid weak performance and rising costs. Eisler’s founder Edward Eisler cited the growing difficulty of running a multi-strategy platform with an expense base acceptable to investors while still retaining experienced managers capable of deploying capital at scale.
Prior to joining Eisler in 2023, Masselin spent 14 years at JPMorgan, where he traded interest rate and equity derivatives. He joined the bank in 2008 as an interest rate derivatives trader before transitioning to equity derivatives in 2014. Earlier in his career, he worked as a trader at Société Générale.
Verition’s London office, located near Regent Street, has been actively recruiting investment talent, benefiting from the ongoing reshuffling of portfolio managers following the closure of several hedge fund platforms. The firm continues to selectively add experienced managers across strategies as multi-strategy peers unwind or rationalise teams.
Masselin’s move follows a series of departures from Eisler Capital in recent months. In December, senior portfolio manager Panos Yiasoumi joined BlueCrest Capital Management as a senior portfolio manager, while in November, former Eisler managing director James Meenan moved to Dymon Asia Capital in Singapore after three years in Eisler’s business development team.
