Hong Kong-based Kaizen Capital Partners’ flagship fund, the Kaizen Asia Pacific Master Fund, gained over 15% in the first six months of the year, partly on bets on China stocks, according to a report by Bloomberg.
The fund is reported by unnamed sources to have notched up a return of over 8 per cent in June alone on the back of both long and short bets across the Asia-Pacific region and has now made money every years since it started trading in 2020.
Kaizen’s chief investment officer Ramesh Karthigesu, a former Marshal Wace portfolio manager, and the firm’s chief executive officer Shiong Tan, have both declined to comment on the fund’s performance.
Kaizen has achieved a rare feat in recording positive performance with a Bloomberg gauge of hedge funds worldwide that bet on stocks losing 11% in the first six months, while a Eurekahedge index tracking Asia-focused funds is down 13% over the same period.
