Hedgebay, a pioneer of the secondary hedge fund market, has appointed leading hedge fund industry figure Lindsey Clavel to lead the firm’s European operations.
As Managing Director for Europe, Clavel will be responsible for determining the strategic direction and growth of the Hedgebay business. While her principal focus will centre on the firm’s European business, Lindsey will also have responsibility for Hedgebay’s operations in MENA and Australasia.
Since joining the firm six years ago, Clavel has played a central role in the rapid growth of the firm’s business. Last June, Clavel was appointed to lead Hedgebay’s business development in the UK and Europe, and has since seen Hedgebay pass the USD5 billion watermark for transactions completed.
In addition to managing Hedgebay’s extensive portfolio of existing clients, Clavel will aim to continue the firm’s recent success by increasing its brand presence and client base across global markets. With 12 years of experience and customers in more than 40 countries, Hedgebay is the world’s most longstanding and largest secondary market provider. However, Clavel is confident that there is significant opportunity for expanding the business.
Clavel says: “I’m excited about this new role, as I believe this is an absolutely critical time for Hedgebay. As pioneers of the secondary market, the size of our client base means that we can virtually guarantee the best prices for assets, while our experience has given us expert knowledge of price discovery and disposition strategy for assets, as well as in executing trades. We have seen that there is a significant need for this expertise across all sections of the market. The challenge we face is to make more people aware that the service exists.
“There is a lingering perception among those familiar with the secondary market that it is only useful for managers exiting illiquid positions. In reality, our service is most effective when used as a day to day trading tool. One of my top priorities will be to get the message out there that Hedgebay provides a hugely valuable service for people in sectors across the financial services industry.”
Prior to joining Hedgebay in 2005, Clavel spent 10 years running the metals trading desk of an Italian industrialist’s family office. Following her graduation from the London School of Economics, Lindsey joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and served for a number of years in the Middle East. Clavel is also a prominent member of 100 Women in Hedge Funds, the global non-profit organisation for professionals in the alternatives industry. The group runs unique educational, professional and philanthropic initiatives on behalf of the industry through its volunteer members.
Co-founder Elias Tueta, who previously executed these responsibilities, will shift to more of an advisory role.
