Multi-strategy hedge fund Millennium has recruited Christian Blanc, a managing director from Goldman Sachs, as it continues to expand its data centre and technology infrastructure capabilities, according to a report by eFinancial Careers.
Blanc joined Millennium this month as deputy head of networks and data centres, based in London. In the role, he is responsible for overseeing the firm’s data centre operations and is already recruiting additional engineering talent to support Millennium’s two London data centres, which provide power, cabling and security for the firm’s local technology rooms.
Prior to joining Millennium, Blanc spent more than six years at Goldman Sachs in London, most recently working within the bank’s Foundational Infrastructure team. His earlier career includes roles at Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan. Millennium declined to comment on the appointment.
The hire comes amid increased investment across the hedge fund industry in data centre capacity and infrastructure to support artificial intelligence workloads. Goldman Sachs has forecast that AI will account for 28% of the global data centre market by the end of 2026.
Millennium has been actively building its AI platform in recent years. The firm appointed Gideon Mann, formerly of Bloomberg, as global head of AI in 2023, alongside Mike Purewal, who joined from Bank of America as head of AI for equities. The firm is also recruiting for more than 20 roles where AI plays a central function, including the development of an internal AI research agent.
In addition to infrastructure, Millennium has been strengthening its data capabilities. In December, it hired Alexei Dvoretskii from Radix Trading as head of high-speed historical market data and simulation
