Newton Investment Management (Newton IM), a $111bn London-based investment boutique owned by BNY Mellon, which is seeking seed capital to enter the hedge fund multi-manager business, has hired Liliana Castillo Dearth as Head of Emerging Market and Asia Equities.
Castillo Dearth, who has managed equity strategies for more than 20 years, is replacing Paul Birchenough and Ian Smith, co-leads of the emerging markets and Asia equities team, who have left the firm to pursue other opportunities.
The report cites a statement from the firm as confirming that Dearth will report to Chief Investment Officer of equities, John Porter. She will also work with portfolio managers Alex Khosla and Zoe Kan, and investment analysts, Fei Chen and Aditya Shah.
Dearth most recently served as portfolio manager at Wellington Management where she developed and managed emerging market equity portfolios, investing in sustainable, secular growth trends in those markets. Prior to that she also spent 18 years at AllianceBernstein, progressing from research analyst to lead portfolio manager of international and emerging markets portfolios.
