Sadis & Goldberg adds to Financial Services practice

Sadis & Goldberg has appointed Richard L Shamos (pictured), as a member of the firm’s Financial Services Group.

Shamos has extensive experience advising financial services companies on the structuring, regulation and distribution of investment funds and brings a depth of experience in investment products and European fund structures, having designed UCITS and AIFs for an array of strategies, including various equity, fixed-income and multi-asset funds, as well as liquid alternatives and multi-manager fund structures.

Prior to joining the firm, Shamos was Director of International Legal at AllianceBernstein, where he advised on the development of new investment products for the firm’s international funds platform, including Luxembourg, Irish and Cayman-based companies. Shamos has advised on strategic concerns with regulatory compliance and the distribution of funds in Europe, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.
 
Shamos has counseled investment advisers and financial services companies on a variety of transactions, including complex cross-border fund mergers, corporate acquisitions, fund restructurings and asset-backed securitisations. In addition, he has advised companies in connection with international regulatory issues, including the conversion of alternative funds to AIFs, the structuring of multi-manager and multi-strategy products, cross-border regulatory compliance and tax planning.
 
Before joining AllianceBernstein, Shamos was an associate at Schulte, Roth & Zabel LLP in the Investment Management practice, where he advised on the formation of hedge funds and private equity funds, and at Clifford Chance US LLP in the Structured Products and Derivatives practice.
 
Shamos earned his JD from Columbia University’s School of Law and his B.A. from Vassar College. Shamos is admitted to practice in New York.
