Tokyo-based Rogers Investment Advisors K.K., has won a USD90 million mandate from a Japanese institutional investor, bringing the firm’s Wolver Hill Japan Multi-Strategy Fund to USD130 million. CEO, Ed Rogers, confirmed in a phone interview that the money would be spread across the fund’s existing managers, although it may look to add two or three. “There are a lot of exciting new Japan hedge funds to choose from – it’s been the biggest start-up year since 2005,” says Rogers, who cites the firm’s solid 3½-year track record as having helped secure the mandate. “It’ll help us build a better portfolio with lower volatility and higher returns as more strategies enter the mix.” “As I like to tell my clients, Japan hedge funds are a great way to play the China game.”
