Offshore law firm Appleby has appointed Christian Victory as an associate in its funds and investment services team.

Victory, who joined Appleby from William Fry in Dublin, transfers from the firm’s British Virgin Islands office where he advised clients on the formation, establishment and listing of mutual funds and hedge funds.

He also has experience in banking and finance, general lending, debt issuance and corporate and commercial law.

His arrival comes after six months of growth by the Cayman Islands funds team. Partner Richard Addlestone joined in January 2010 with over 16 years’ corporate, private equity and hedge funds experience having spent eight years with Walkers in Cayman.

Partner Sabrina Leacock rejoined the funds team on a full-time basis in early 2010 following a period of leave. She has over 13 years’ experience of Cayman law and she advises investment managers, promoters and administrators on the structuring and establishment of mutual funds as well as unit and private trust work.

Senior counsel Rory Todd recently transferred from Appleby’s London office to Cayman. He works with inbound projects and fund managers as well as institutional and sovereign investors and his practice includes corporate finance and joint ventures. He has 16 years of Cayman law experience having previously been with legacy firm Hunter & Hunter in Cayman since 1994.

Associate Charmaine Richter trained at Appleby and qualified in 2009. She practised with the fund disputes team assisting with significant liquidation and trust cases including the Ming An scheme of arrangement and representing liquidators of the Bear Stearns feeder funds. In April 2010 she joined the funds and investment services team and currently advises on all aspects of fund formation.

Partner Bryan Hunter, Cayman head of the corporate and commercial practice group and the funds and investment services team says: “Appleby endeavours to provide outstanding service to our clients through exceptional professionals. Richard’s appointment, Sabrina’s return and Rory, Christian and Charmaine’s transfers to the team come at an opportune time as the global funds market starts to recover.”
