Hudson Bay Capital Management has hired Scott Black as general counsel and chief compliance officer.

Black joins Hudson Bay from the Securities and Exchange Commission, where he was an assistant regional director in the division of enforcement in the commission’s New York regional office.

“As we build on our culture of best practices, we are extremely pleased to have Scott on our team. His broad regulatory experience in both the public and private sectors make him a strong addition to our institutional investment management platform,” says Sander Gerber, founder and chief investment officer of Hudson Bay.

At the SEC, Black handled some of the agency’s most challenging matters, overseeing investigations and litigating numerous filed actions. Black led the agency’s probe of all hedge fund managers who placed investor funds with Bernard Madoff Securities.

“I am pleased to join Hudson Bay and I look forward to working with my new colleagues as the firm grows.  With the enactment of the Dodd-Frank Act, the hedge fund industry is undergoing a period of significant transition, and I am excited to have the opportunity to assist Hudson Bay through this process,” says Black.

Before joining the SEC in 2004, Black was associated with the New York law firms Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen and Katz, and Kostelanetz and Fink.
