October saw UCITS funds deliver consistent gains, according to Swiss-based UCITS Alternative Index. Its Global Index was up +0.71 per cent, the forth consecutive monthly gain, leaving it at +0.99 per cent year-to-date. With U.S. corn prices reaching two-year highs in October it’s perhaps unsurprising that the Commodities Index was the best performer, delivering +2.20 per cent growth to help eradicate some of this year’s earlier losses; the Index is now -4.71 per cent year-to-date (making it still the worst performing index). CTA (+1.45 per cent) and Emerging Markets (+1.34 per cent) were the month’s next-best gainers. Positive returns were made across every UCITS strategy, in fact, although the threat of a currency war made it a tough month for the FX Index, delivering a flat +0.03 per cent. Event-driven strategies also floundered, achieving modest growth of +0.13 per cent. Nevertheless, Event-Driven is still the second best performing index year-to-date, up +3.60 per cent. Fixed Income remains on top, as it has done for much of 2010, gaining +0.44 per cent to leave it +4.21 per cent year-to-date.
