The Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA), has launched a Chinese translation of its global hedge fund guidebook – Roadmap to Hedge Funds. Aimed at an institutional investor audience, the Roadmap was launched by Christophe Lee (pictured), Chairman of AIMA Hong Kong and China, in Shanghai. Its purpose is to help explain the function and benefits of holding alternatives as part of a diversified portfolio to China’s investment community. The guide opens with a foreword written by Alexa Lam, Deputy CEO and Director for Policy, China & Investment Products at Hong Kong’s SFC. It takes investors through every facet of a hedge fund, beginning with a formal definition before going on to highlight how the industry has grown and performed globally, what are the different hedge fund strategies, through to details on manager locations. The core objective of the Roadmap is to debunk many of the myths that surround alternatives. Commenting on the launch, Christophe Lee told Hedgeweek via email: “Our goal with the Roadmap is to provide a high quality publication as a reference for Chinese regulators and investors as they consider broadening their investment horizon into global markets and hedge funds.” E Fund Management is set to become China’s first registered hedge fund having recently submitted registration details to the China Securities Regulatory Commission. China Southern Fund Management is also gearing up to launch its first China hedge fund, whilst in the summer Trivest Advisors Ltd., headed up by ex-SSGA fund manager, Wu Huimin, launched a USD93million equity l/s fund focused on China.
