Peregrine expands capital Introduction team

Related Topics

Wealth and alternative asset management group Peregrine Holdings has added André Tonkin to its capital introduction team.

Tonkin joins Peregrine from Old Mutual Corporate where he was the market actuary responsible for creating customised investment solutions for the institutional market. At Peregrine, Tonkin will focus on the South African and international institutional market, working with existing team members Leila Kuhlenthal and Felicia Mlanjana.

“We are excited to have André join our team as the South African institutional market starts to react positively to the opportunities which the hedge fund industry offers now that Regulation 28 has recognised this important asset class,” says Leila Kuhlenthal, Head of Peregrine Capital Introduction. “Peregrine’s capital introduction unit was established in 2009 to serve as a central portal for investors into the group and its associate companies."

Tonkin is a qualified actuary with the Faculty of Actuaries and has four years of investment-related experience gained at Fifth Quadrant as well as Old Mutual. He also holds the FRM (Financial Risk Manager) and CAIA (Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst) qualifications.

“I am looking forward to being part of a dynamic and growing business within a group that has been a pioneer of the hedge fund industry in South Africa.  Peregrine has some of the longest running hedge funds in the country on its platform and offers exciting new opportunities,” Tonkin says. “The company’s focus remains, however, to provide investors with an efficient portal to select the most appropriate investment solutions to meet their objectives and not to drive growth in assets under management for growth’s sake alone."
