After first reporting at the end of last year that Deutsche Bank was working with London-based Sloane Robinson to launch a UCITS version of the firm’s flagship Asia fund, it was officially confirmed this week that the new fund had started trading. The same investment team that manages the offshore Sloane Robinson Asia Fund will run the onshore vehicle, entitled DB Platinum Sloane Robinson Asia. Richard Chenevix-Trench and Jonathan Barnett are co-managers of the portfolio. A fundamental research approach forms the basis of the investment process. Hugh Sloane, founder and CEO, said that the firm was encouraged by the timing of the launch “in light of the strong fundamental investment opportunities” in Asia. He believes that many of the recent macro headwinds will “begin to abate” moving into the second half of 2011. Commenting on the launch, Deutsche’s Global Head of Fund Derivatives, Stephane Farouze, said: “Investor appetite for Asian strategies in the UCITS space remains very strong and Sloane Robinson’s expertise and long-standing presence in this area will make this a successful launch.”
