PhaseCapital has appointed Michael Ning as chief investment officer (CIO).

Ning will be responsible for PhaseCapital’s investment strategies and research process and will work to further refine the Boston-based asset manager’s investment platform.

Ning, a 20 year industry veteran, most recently served as senior vice president and portfolio manager, multi-asset absolute return strategy at First Eagle Investment Management. Prior to this, he held positions such as senior vice president and portfolio manager, absolute return strategy and head of quantitative credit research with AllianceBernstein after beginning his career at Citigroup.

“The availability of so many data points today requires investors use machine technologies like those Michael has pioneered to make better decisions in real time,” says Michael DePalma (pictured), PhaseCapital’s chief executive officer who brought Ning to AllianceBernstein. “What makes Michael truly unique though, and the reason I personally am so excited he’s joining us, is his ability to combine academic rigor and quantitative analysis skills with a real world investing acumen.”

Established in 2007, PhaseCapital has developed a flexible investment platform that allows the firm to deliver a diverse set of products, as well as customised solutions, to help meet the substantial challenges of the current and future investment environment.

“PhaseCapital provides the ideal environment for me to do what I do best – develop and implement trading strategies and systems that leverage all of the technological tools available today,” says Ning. “I’m eager to develop something special with Michael and the rest of the talented team here, and look forward to enhancing the firm’s already robust investment platform.”
