San Franciso law firm Shartsis Friese has elected hedge fund partner Neil Koren as its new managing partner, according to report by the Recorder. Koren succeeds Art Shartsis, the 47-year-old firm’s co-founder and sole managing partner.

The appointment of Koren, a partner in the firm’s investment advisory group, comes as co-founder Shartsis, who has led the midsize firm since its inception in 1975, prepares to step down at the end of the year.

Koren, who has been a member of the firm for over 23 years, has advised a variety of hedge funds, venture, private equity and real estate funds on registration, compliance, management, investments and M&A activities. Before joining Shartsis Friese he spent a brief spell wth Schulte Roth & Zabel in New York.

Shatsis Friese’s investment advisory group has been ranked by investment industry publication Alpha Magazine as the No1 practice in the world and the group competes with leading New York firms. Clients include The Cypress Funds, MRA Associates and Universa Investments.
