The NZ Superannuation Fund New (NZ Super Fund), a New Zealand-based sovereign wealth fund established to help finance the country’s state pension scheme, has made a new $100 million allocation to global macro hedge fund Episteme Capital.

The fund announced the investment in Episteme’s flagship Systematic Quest Total Return programme (ESQTR) in its latest investor newsletter.

The allocation to ESQTR, which employs a mix of fundamental, technical, and liquidity strategies in the most liquid futures and foreign exchange forward markets, sees Epistome join NZ Super Fund’s existing global macro hedge fund managers Bridgewater and Citadel.

“We expect Global Macro strategies to be market neutral, producing uncorrelated return over the course of market cycles,” said NZ Super Fund in its newsletter.

The funds also made $150 million in new private equity commitments to existing manager Columbia Capital, with USD$50m going to Columbia Capital Equity Partners VIII and USD$100m to Opportunities Fund I.
