Cboe Global Markets has extended trading in Russell 2000 Index (RUT) and Russell 2000 Weeklys (RUTW) options to nearly 24 hours a day, five days a week, enabling global investors to access US small-cap exposure outside traditional market hours.
The move brings RUT options into Cboe’s Global Trading Hours (GTH) session, alongside S&P 500 Index (SPX), Mini-SPX (XSP), and Cboe Volatility Index (VIX) options, which collectively hit record volumes in 2025, up 27% from the previous year.
Cash-settled, European-style RUT options have seen rising demand from retail and institutional investors, particularly for hedging, yield generation, and zero-days-to-expiry (0DTE) strategies. In January 2026, 0DTE activity accounted for 23% of total RUT options trading, reflecting growing interest in short-dated positions.
“By offering nearly 24-hour RUT trading alongside SPX and VIX options, global investors can better act on their strategies in real time, regardless of time zone,” said Rob Hocking, Global Head of Derivatives at Cboe.
UT and RUTW options now trade during Regular Trading Hours (9:30am–4:15pm ET), GTH (8:15pm–9:25am ET), and Curb Trading Hours (4:15–5:00pm ET).
