Balyasny expands London portfolio manager integration team

Related Topics

Balyasny Asset Management is continuing to expand its London operation, adding specialist roles focused on integrating and supporting portfolio managers as the hedge fund recruits across commodities, quantitative strategies and other areas, according to a report by eFinancial Careers.

The firm has hired more than 100 people in London over the past year, based on LinkedIn data, with a significant portion of the recruitment concentrated in commodities and quantitative roles.

Among the latest appointments is Alexandra Theis, who has joined Balyasny as head of portfolio manager integration and relationship management for EMEA.

Theis appears to be working alongside Jessica McMullen, who joined the firm in June in a comparable role. Balyasny reportedly did not comment on the responsibilities of either executive.

The appointments come as the hedge fund continues to add portfolio managers to its London platform, with around 14 new PMs joining over the past year.

The creation and expansion of dedicated portfolio manager integration roles points to the operational demands associated with Balyasny’s multi-manager model, in which individual investment teams operate within a broader centralised platform.

McMullen joined from Citi, where she was a senior vice president in prime finance. Theis previously worked at BNP Paribas as a director in prime brokerage sales.

Alongside her financial services background, Theis has experience as a coach and provides guidance in areas including wellbeing and fertility through an external coaching practice.
