TotalEnergies gasoline trading head joins hedge fund Verition

Related Topics

Gregory Galimberti, the Head of Americas Gasoline at TotalEnergies’ US trading arm, Atlantic Trading & Marketing Inc, has departed the energy major to join multi-strategy hedge fund Verition Fund Management, according to a report by Reuters citing three people familiar with the matter.

Galimberti, a veteran commodities trader, is the latest in a growing wave of senior energy talent making the leap from traditional oil trading houses to hedge funds, as volatility in global commodities markets continues to attract institutional capital and speculators alike.

At ATMI, Galimberti oversaw trading of light fuels – including gasoline and naphtha – across the Americas, a role he held since 2020. Prior to joining TotalEnergies in 2017, he held trading roles at Glencore and Mercuria Energy, according to his LinkedIn profile.

New York-based sources said Galimberti resigned from ATMI in recent days to take up a trading role at Verition, the Greenwich, Connecticut-based hedge fund that manages approximately $12.5bn in assets as of April.

Verition has been aggressively expanding its trading platform, adding senior talent across asset classes including equities, credit, and fixed income. The hire of Galimberti marks a notable step into deepening its commodities expertise, an area that has seen surging investor interest and hedge fund performance since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine triggered unprecedented volatility in energy markets.

Neither Galimberti nor representatives for TotalEnergies, ATMI, or Verition responded to requests by Reuters for comment.
