Multi-strategy hedge fund firm Balyasny Asset Management has bolstered its New York team by hiring Bernard Yiu, a mortgage-backed securities portfolio manager formerly at Verition, according to a report by eFinancial Careers.
Yiu brings extensive banking experience, having spent nearly five years at Nomura and eight years at Deutsche Bank prior to Verition.
The hire is part of Balyasny’s broader expansion, which has added economists and staff to its macro pod in Asia. The firm has a history of offering significant packages to attract senior portfolio managers, though Yiu’s compensation has not been disclosed. This move underscores Balyasny’s ongoing focus on strengthening specialised trading capabilities and expanding its investment teams globally.
