Balyasny Asset Management has appointed two new business development Managing Directors to its team in New York – David Matz and Daniel Anzalone, who will focus on finding new portfolio manager talent, according to a report by eFinancial Careers.
Matz has joined Balyasny from Smith Hanley Associates, a New York executive recruitment agency, where he spent 13 years, while Anzalone has joined from BlueCrest Capital Management, Michael Platt’s hedge fund-turned-family office, where he spent five years, following an 11 year stint at UBS.
Balyasny endured a difficult 2023, with the firm managing a return of just 2.7% over the course of the year, well behind both the S&P500 and its multi-strategy rivals, with one London-based trader chalking up a $100m loss for the year.
