Balyasny Asset Management is rapidly expanding its European gas trading capabilities — and it’s doing so by tapping a deep bench of talent from Centrica Energy hiring more than 20 staff from the Danish company since late 2023, according to a report by eFinancial Careers.
The latest Centrica exec to join the multi-strategy hedge fund Ezio Lauro, who served as head of quantitative forward trading.
Lauro joins Thomas Bang, Centrica’s former head of trading and new markets, who joined as Balyasny as a portfolio manager in 2024 and appears to be a key driver behind the recruitment wave. Other notable hires include strategist Anders B Ghoul and trader Magne Harrild.
Balyasny’s Danish team has also drawn talent from rival Norlys Energy Trading, reinforcing the fund’s aggressive push into European energy markets. The firm’s Danish COO, Jorgen Aasted, previously held roles at both Centrica and Norlys.
